Dear Mr Dyer *1,
I have been looking out for someone who would think it worth his while to act as my private Secretary for a year for 4 mornings in the week at £100 per annum & a month's vacation: and as this work will be in the main botanical or

closely connected therewith, & as you will now have to be a great deal at the Herbarium it struck me that you might not think me taking a liberty -- if I proposed it to you.
The hours that would be most convenient to me would be 9 -- 1 -- and if it were convenient to you Mrs. Hooker would be

happy to see you at our breakfast at 8 1/2, or at lunch at 1 PM.
The chief work would be correspondence, arranging, papers cataloguing plants for various purposes & preparing materials references etc etc etc for the Genera Plantarum & Indian Flora etc etc
With regard to days & hours I should be very happy to be guided as far as possible by your

1. Sir William Turner Thiselton-Dyer (1843--1928). British botanist and third Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (1885--1905). He succeeded Joseph Hooker in the role after serving as his Assistant Director for ten years. He also married Hooker's eldest daughter Harriet in 1877.
