My dear Munro*1
Here is a very curious New Zealand Grass from out[?] of Festuca!, with two neuter spalia'd[?] aristata florets & a terminal blunt fertile one. do you know what it is? I have had fearful work with the Poa's & Danthonias[?], which are hopeless in my opinion I fear you will say I have murdered them -- I am utterly at a loss about that slender glaucous lax panicled Festuca of Colenso's (New Zealand) like duriuscula but the panicle [1 word illeg.] & [1 word illeg.] flexure[?] -- you called it Schenodonus[?] but I do not find toothed [1 word illeg.]. I do hope you will be able to come to us in January & we will forgive you all Lord Derby's sins -- if you can do so by him for yourself.
We go to [1 word illeg.] tomorrow for a week, taking [1 word illeg.] with us. Mrs Hooker keeps

remarkably well, but I do not expect her back here for 6 weeks.
Lindley came here today & took away 150 Orchideae -- about half the species we have for him; he seemed much pleased with them.
With united kindest regards
Ever y[our]s | J D Hooker [signature]
PS. I also find amongst New Zealand Poa[?] a specimen of what appears my Catatera[?] aquatica & if so it is a true Aira!
